Poetry: Imagination

Am I a figment of your imagination—
Or are you a figment of mine?
The natural law of cause and effect
Seems like it’s been lost to time.

In the endless feed, there is no light—
The laughter dim, the hatred bright.
A vicious cascade of blue light
Till the inner eye bleeds from the fright.

Do you let that blood slip through your fingers—
Or do you swallow it like your tears?
For the number one rule of the modern age
Is: you can’t reveal your fears.

The law is binary: “like” it or not—
Sweeter than sugar, sour as rot.
Truth fragments at the cold onslaught
Fact or fiction—all for naught.

Are you a figment of my imagination—
Or am I a figment of yours?
Is the manic eye of a faceless mass
The lone way to settle the score?
